I think I wrote the following Thursday 09/11/2008 at 3:44am.
Starring that guy who is the lead in Pushing Daisies.
I was at the mall (shudder) (I had to go there to check out a new cell phone at the AT&T Mobility store) the day it came out on Digital Versatile Disc/Blu-ray.
I just thought I would run down to Suncoast and pick up the movie.
I walked all the way down to the opposite side of the mall.
I didn’t see it on the new release rack. The clerk looked it up in the computer and said they didn’t have any come in.
She suggested I try FYE, which so happens was right next door to the AT&T Mobility store.
Now normally I’m a big fan of NOT even stepping foot into FYE. They are so insanely expensive it’s out of control! But I was willing to make an exception for this film.
FYE didn’t have it either. They did have a 4 year old kid eating superman ice cream running around the store throwing his spoon on cd’s. With his mother in tow frantically trying to clean up after him.
On the way home I stopped at Borders. It’s all “artsy” there. They should carry it.
Nope they didn’t have it.
After 10 mins of looking on his computer, the clerk informed me that there was a delay from there publisher and they will have four copies in on Thursday (2 days from then). I politely declined placing a hold.
I made a slight detour on my way home and hit up Barnes and Nobels.
Walking into the movie section I asked the girl there “Hey I’m looking for The Fall (was going to continue “It just came out today”)” and she was like “oh yea I just saw it a shelf” She started leading me over to it and I interrupted saying “Yea but is it on Blu-ray?” She looked crestfallen and said no. BUT that she could order it for me. She explained that for Blu-rays they just don’t get that many in. IF any at all.
She then got really pushie trying to off load the Digital Versatile Disc to me.
I screamed at her QUALITY!!!!! and fled the store.
I now made a major detour on my way home to Circuit City.
I snagged a flyer as I walked into the door. Walked into the movie section and was immediately confused.
All there movies were placed backwards on the shelves. The clerk there explained they were starting inventory tomorrow and it’s easier for them to scan the bar codes that way. He was unable to find it in the backwards reversed alphabetical system.
His computer didn’t even have it listed. I explained that it was in the flyer for the store. He took a look in the stock room.
I looked in vain in the flyer for the movie.
I had seen it Sundays paper for Circuity city. Where it was coming out for the “low low price” of only 27.9999999999.
He came back and said nope not in the stock room either. He seemed innocent enough so I believed him.
I went to Best Buy.
Immediately upon walking into the store I was confronted with a new release movie display. In it sitting all nice and shiny was the Blu-ray box beckoning to me.
I grabbed a copy and ran down to the check out counter. Paid and was outside back in my car with a total time spent in Best Buy. 3 mins.
Totally length of hunt since leaving the AT&T Mobility store and arriving home. 1.5 hours exactly.
Movie was visually totally worth it!
