Southland Tales (2006)

I heard on the radio this morning (I wrote this initially on Thu, 09/11/2008 at 19:12. I was very drunk) that it was Moby’s birthday.
I promptly forgot.

Previous to that I saw there was as str….
errrrr let me back up.

I religiously check through the power of rss feeds the site bluray.highdefdigest.com
This morning this little snippet popped up in my rss reader:

“Sony has announced a November release for the controversial sci-fi fantasy ‘Southland Tales.’ Filmmaker Richard Kelly’s sprawling follow-up to his cult classic ‘Donnie Darko,’ ‘Southland Tales’ failed…”
(ok ok the feed was actually from 2 days ago BUT I did read it today.)

My brain went “WHAAAAAAT!!!!” “from the creator of Donnie DARKO!!!!” “Oh boy!”

Five seconds later I was blinking furiously (It was 5am mind you. I had just woken up) trying to watch the trailer.

I mass emailed everyone the trailer.

The basic response I got back on sending it was “dude that looks awesome”.

later later later later after work (knowing this was going to be thrown on as soon as I got home…. was killing me)

“Not even five mins into the film… So far it’s fantastic!!!” – a text I sent. I was hooked.

I just got done finished watching it in it’s entirety.
When the credits popped up it said in giant letters “music by Moby”

That’s when I remembered it was his 40th birthday.

Begin quote now:

This is the way the world ends. Not with a whimper, but with a bang.
This is a film about all of the seemingly random events that lead up to the end of the world. And it’s also a comedy.
That says it all right there, doesn’t it?
When this film ended, I ran to tell every one I could find about it. The odd thing I found about it was that I ended nearly every one of these conversations with the following:
“It was amazing, but don’t see it. You won’t like it.”

End quote.
